Where to Get Passport Photos

You have four main options: drugstores, shipping and post offices, professional studios, or your own phone at home. All can produce an acceptable photo if the result meets the same federal rules.

Drugstores and retail

Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart Photo Centers are the most common choices in the US. Trained staff take the picture and print two copies. Appointments are usually not required.

  • Pros: fast, in-person help, prints on the spot
  • Cons: $8–17 per set, quality varies by location

Shipping stores and post offices

The UPS Store and FedEx Office often offer passport photos. Some USPS locations do as well—check usps.com for services near you. AAA members may get discounted photos at select branches.

At home (free)

Take a photo against a plain wall, crop it with our free online tool, and print at home or upload to a store kiosk. This is the cheapest option and works for both online renewal and mail-in forms when printed correctly.

  • Best if you have a smartphone and a few minutes
  • Lets you retake until you are satisfied
  • Digital file ready for online renewal immediately

Do I need an appointment?
Most drugstores accept walk-ins. Post offices and AAA may require appointments depending on location.
